The S.T.A.R Clinic is one of only a handful of vet-led referral clinics in the UK dedicated to rehabilitation, pain management and sports medicine in our animal friends. We provide care for pets from all walks of life including our older arthritic cats and dogs, those recovering from injury or surgery, top level competition dogs and working dogs of all kinds whether they be police dogs, gun dogs or guide dogs.
We are now pleased to be able to offer a first opinion general small animal veterinary practice (including exotics) alongside our specialist rehabilitation services.
Our aim is to provide the highest level of care for you and your pet, to ensure that we can rehabilitate them to their highest achievable level of fitness and to prevent further injury.
By managing the underlying causes of pain and optimising performance in all of our patients throughout their recovery process and beyond, we an help you achieve a comfortable and happy life for your pet.

We offer specialist rehabilitation, pain management and sports medicine services and are fortunate that our facility is led by one of only a few vets in the country to be a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT) and to also hold a General Practitioners Certificate in Chronic Pain Management and Western Veterinary Acupuncture (CerGP CPM&WVA)
Meet the Team
Emma Poore | Clinical Director
The S.T.A.R Clinic is run by our experienced Veterinary Surgeon Emma Poore BSc VetMB MA MRCVS CertGP(WVA&CPM) CCRT. With extensive specialist training in rehabilitation, pain management (including acupuncture) and sports medicine, Emma is is one of the UK’s leading specialists in this rapidly progressing field of Veterinary Medicine.
Emma has been trained by the top rehabilitation therapists and sports medicine clinicians in the USA – notably Chris Zink, Janet Van Dyke and Laurie McCauley to name a few – and is a member of the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. She has also spent time in Belgium working alongside a leading canine physical therapist, Ellen Martens, specialising in neurologic rehabilitation. Emma is one of only a small number of vets in the UK to hold the CCRT (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist) qualification.
Emma also holds a General Practioners Certificate in Western Veterinary Acupuncture and Chronic Pain Management (validated by the European School of Veterinary Post- Graduate Studies), having undertaken specialist training by one of the UK’s top pain management specialists, Samantha Lindlay. She is a member of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
Emma has also developed close links with ACPAT Animal Physiotherapists McTimony Chiropractic Practitioners, Osteopathy Practitioners and the Association of Pet Behaviour Counselors so that every one of your pet’s rehabilitation/pain management needs is met.
Nicky Poore |Managing Director
The management responsibility for the practice falls to Nicky Poore CertEd NPQH LPSH. Having had a career in teaching for 33 years, of which the last 15 were as a Headteacher, Nicky retired at the end of 2012.
However, never one to stand still for long. she soon realised that she needed a new challenge. She is now running her own successful educational consultancy business and is also helping Emma with the running of the S.T.A.R Clinic.
Nicky spends her spare time drinking hot chocolate (no we’re not joking) and reading.
